Here we are. The antics we have bore witness to in these opening pages exist only in our main character’s head. Our clock nemesis, merely a representation of the clocks that surround Colton day in, day out. They say to never open a story with a dream. We didn’t listen. Why? Two reasons: 1. It’s a reference to Brazil, a movie that was my biggest influence when creating The Jacket, and 2. Though a dream, it doesn’t mean it lacks significance to the events to come. We’ve seen Colton’s fantasy world, now it’s time to see his reality.
Also, from here on out: no more dreams. This was the first and last. Promise.
